How to Plan a Trip to China
Even if you are an experienced traveler, it can still be daunting to plan your first trip to China. If it is your first time to visit China, then here are some simple steps to help you in planning your trip.
One of the first things to consider when planning your first trip to China is where you want to go. Well, there’s Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai. If you have time, you can also visit Guilin and Chengdu. Choose places that will interest you much. It is good to research these areas so you will know the places that you really want to go. It is important also to determine the activities that can be done in these places.
Include Beijing in your itinerary if you want to see a mix of history and modernity. Sights to see in Beijing are the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China.
For history lovers, Xi’an is the place in China to visit. Here is the place where China began as a nation. When the first emperor ruled in China, this was the place where he set up his rule. The Great Mosque, the grand Terracotta Army, and the Wild Big Goose Pagodas can also be seen here.
The largest and showiest city of China in Shanghai. The city is full of towering buildings. You can tour Hangzhou, Suzhou, or Huangshan which are water towns.
Guilin has picturesque scenery and has a minority culture in China. The landscape in this place is truly beautiful and it gives you a relaxing escape from the city. In Yangshuo, you can cruise the Li River. At the Longji Rice Terraces you will find a minority culture where you can spend some days. This is where they plant in tiered fields and you can get to meet the Zhuang and Yao minorities.
Chengdu is home to the giant pandas. Here you can also taste great cuisine like the Spicy Sichuan hotpot.
The next thing to do is to decide the duration of your stay. If you don’t want to just scratch the surface of China, then a week would be ideal.
You should be aware of the gateway cities and the visa policy of China. Shangai and Beijing are the two gateway cities for your international flight. You can also enter China via Hong Kong.
Also consider the best time to travel to China. You can visit China’s cultural and historical attractions all year round. If you will do anything in these regions, seasons don’t affect it. For a China tour, the most comfortable and highly recommended times are during spring and autumn or from April to October.
